BuzzMeBro sells a paid fix for buzzer problems. This guide covers the free options too.

Yes. An AI assistant that can connect to tools, such as Claude with a connector, can check your building, set up a BuzzMeBro number that rings every phone in the apartment, and write the request to your building. Two steps stay with you: reading it the code we text to your phone, and approving the card on Stripe’s page.

Most buzzer problems end the same way: a number has to be set up, and somebody has to ask the building to store it. That is admin, and admin is what people now hand to an assistant. Here is what one can actually do for you, and where you still come in.

What does the assistant need from you?

Three things, all of which you know without looking anything up.

  • Your postal code. BuzzMeBro uses it to check that a number local to your building is available, because many lobby panels only dial local numbers. Why that matters.
  • Your unit as the lobby panel lists it, for example 1502, PH3 or B. How to check what the panel shows.
  • Your own mobile number. It becomes the first phone the buzzer rings and how you sign in later.

What happens, step by step

  1. Ask your assistant Say something like: “Set up BuzzMeBro for my apartment so the buzzer rings all of us.” It needs to be an assistant that can connect to outside tools. How to connect one.
  2. It checks your building The check uses your postal code only. It stores nothing and costs nothing, and it tells the assistant whether BuzzMeBro can serve your building yet.
  3. You read it the texted code BuzzMeBro texts a code to your mobile. Tell the assistant the code. This proves the phone is yours, which matters because that phone will open your front door.
  4. You approve the card on Stripe The assistant gives you a Stripe checkout page. Approve it there. Card details go to Stripe, never to BuzzMeBro or the assistant.
  5. It hands you the number and the building message Once the number is live, the assistant gets it along with a ready-written request for management, the landlord, the concierge or the super. If it can send email for you, it can send that too.

Why can’t the assistant do the last two steps itself?

Both protect you. The texted code stops anybody from pointing a buzzer number at a phone that is not theirs. The card step means money only moves when you approve it, on a payment page run by Stripe.

What the assistant can and cannot see is set out in full in is it safe to let an assistant do this.

What about the building?

The building stores one phone number for your unit. Switching to BuzzMeBro means it stores the new number instead, and nothing else about the panel changes. Visitors buzz the same way and you press the same digit to open.

The assistant receives the request already written, so it can send it or hand it to you. The wording, if you would rather send it yourself.

Where does this work?

BuzzMeBro serves apartments in Toronto and the GTA and in Greater Vancouver first. The building check tells the assistant straight away if a postal code is outside that, before anything is set up or paid.

The technical details for assistants and the people who build them are on the BuzzMeBro page for AI assistants. Prefer to do it yourself? Start free, the same steps in about two minutes.

From our own door

  • An assistant connected to BuzzMeBro can check a building and start a setup for you; checking stores nothing and costs nothing.
  • You prove the mobile is yours with a code we text to it, which you read to your assistant. That phone will open your front door, so the step cannot be skipped.
  • Payment is on Stripe’s own checkout page. Card details go to Stripe, never to BuzzMeBro or the assistant.
  • When the number is live, the assistant receives it with ready-written requests for your building, none of which contains a door digit.

Questions people ask

Which assistants can do this?

Any assistant that can connect to an outside tool over MCP or call a web API. Claude can add one as a custom connector. An assistant that can only chat can still explain the steps, and you would do them at buzzmebro.com.

Will the assistant see my card?

No. Payment happens on Stripe’s checkout page, and card details go to Stripe, never to BuzzMeBro or the assistant.

Can the assistant set it up without texting me?

No. The code we text to your mobile is the step that proves the phone is yours. Without it, anybody could point a buzzer number at somebody else’s phone.

How much does it cost?

The same as signing up yourself: $9.99 a month for the whole apartment, with the first month free where it is offered. The assistant reads the current price from BuzzMeBro rather than guessing it.

What does my roommate need to do?

Nothing to start. One person sets up the apartment, and up to 4 phones can be on it. How an assistant handles a shared apartment.
