Sharing an apartment? Let one assistant set up the buzzer for everyone
One roommate’s AI assistant can set up the whole apartment. It checks the building, sets up a BuzzMeBro number with that person’s mobile as the first phone, and writes the request to the building. The others are added to the same apartment, up to 4 phones, and every buzz then rings all of them at once. Nobody else needs an assistant.

In a shared apartment the buzzer usually rings whoever signed the lease, and that person becomes the door for everybody. Setting up a shared number fixes it, and it is exactly the kind of errand one person can hand to an assistant on behalf of the household.
Why does the buzzer only reach one of you today?
A dial-out lobby panel calls one stored number for each unit. Mircom’s TX3 guide describes it as an auto-dialer: a visitor enters the dial code and the system dials the resident’s home or cell number. One number, one phone.
The fix is not a second number in the panel. It is one number that rings everyone. The longer explanation.
Who does what
| Step | Who |
|---|---|
| Ask the assistant to set up BuzzMeBro | Whoever has an assistant that can use tools |
| Read back the texted code | That same person, from their own phone |
| Approve the card on Stripe’s page | Whoever is paying for the apartment |
| Join the apartment | Each roommate, added by phone number |
| Send the request to the building | The assistant, or the person on the lease |
If the person on the lease is not the one with the assistant, let the assistant draft the building request and have the leaseholder send it. Buildings often answer the person they have on file. Who should be on the buzzer.
What to tell the assistant
Give it the postal code, the unit as the lobby panel shows it, and your own mobile. Then say who lives with you, so it knows to remind you to add them. A sentence that works: “Set up BuzzMeBro for our apartment. There are three of us and we all want the buzzer.” More on what to say.
The note for the group chat
Ask the assistant to draft it once the number is live. It should say three things: the buzzer will ring everyone from now on, whoever answers presses the same digit as before, and save the new number as a contact so a silenced phone still rings.
When someone moves out, they are removed from the apartment and the building is not involved. Removing someone. Rather do it without an assistant? Start free.
From our own door
- A buzz rings every phone on the apartment at the same time, up to 4; whoever answers first handles it.
- An assistant connected to BuzzMeBro can check a building and start the setup; the person proves their mobile with a code we text to it.
- When the number is live, the assistant receives it with ready-written requests for building management, the landlord, the concierge or the super.
- Phones on Do Not Disturb or silent miss buzzes unless the buzzer number is saved and allowed through.
Questions people ask
Does every roommate need an AI assistant?
No. One person sets up the apartment. The others are added by phone number and simply get the calls.
Whose phone rings first?
All of them ring at the same time. The person who set it up is simply the first phone on the apartment and signs in with their mobile.
Who pays?
One $9.99 a month covers the whole apartment, approved by one person on Stripe’s page. How you split it is up to the household.
What if my roommate already set up the buzzer with their own number?
The building replaces that stored number with the apartment number. The roommate keeps their phone and is added to the apartment like everyone else.
